The second phase distribution of smart National Identity Card (NID) begins in Dhaka on Tuesday amid poor response of voters to collect their cards in the ongoing first phase, reports UNB.
During the second phase, the Election Commission (EC) will distribute smart NID cards in five wards under Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC), two wards under Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC), and the Cantonment Board.
EC officials said so far only half the people have collected their machine-readable NID cards in the first phase of distribution which is set to end on next Wednesday.
On October 2, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the distribution of the much-anticipiated smart NID cards, replacing the existing laminated ones.
