Fisheries and livestock minister Muhammed Sayedul Hoque

I am ready to quit if anyone can prove it

Fisheries and livestock minister Muhammed Sayedul Hoque on Sunday denied allegations of making abusive remarks about the Hindu community.

The ruling Awami League member of parliament from Brahmanbaria also challenged those who made the allegation to prove it.

"I am ready to quit if anyone can prove it," he said at a press conference at Nasirnagar, Brahmanbaria.

The minister claimed that he did not use the insulting word of "Malaun" (cursed) about the Hindus.

Nasirnagar has recently been plagued by communal tensions, especially attacks on temples and houses of minorities.

"I have been in politics for 25-30 years and I have never had any dispute with the Hindu community," he said.

The minister expressed his views that vested quarters are out to create confusion instead of protecting the vulnerable minitority people, exposing them further to attacks.

Sayedul Haque also blamed leaders of the minority community and a civil society leaders for creating the confusion.
