Allegedly a college student, Imran Hossain, at Municipal Tank Road in Sadar Upazila raped a two-and-a-half-year-old girl.
Police arrested the Imran Hossain, 19, a Class-XI student of Govt Sundarbans Model College and son of Arif Hossain of the area, from his house on Friday morning.
Shafiqul Islam, Officer-in-charge of Sadar police station, said Imran took the girl to his house around 11:00 am on Wednesday after her mother, Peyara Begum, went to a local Brac office leaving her with her (girl’s) grandmother.
Imran fed the girl sedatives and raped her.
Victim’s mother filed a case against Imran with the police station on the day.
Imran was produced before the court of additional chief metropolitan magistrate Sumi Ahmed on Friday seeking a five-day remand for interrogation.
The court, however, fixed Sunday for hearing the remand petition.
