BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today said the gov’t has shown an undemocratic gesture through cancelling out his party’s plea to hold a rally at Dhaka’s Shurawardy Udyan on November 7.
“We will seek permission for holding the rally at any other venue,” Fakhrul said adding that the govt has shown an undemocratic gesture by not giving us the permission.
Fakhrul made the remarks while talking to reporters after placing floral wreaths on the grave of the party’s founder Ziaur Rahman in the capital's Sher-e-Bangla Nagar this noon.
He went there along with the leaders of the newly formed committee of Swechhasebak Dal.
Expressing his party’s concern about the recent attacks on Hindu community and the rise of militancy in the country, Fakhrul said, “A vested quarter is trying to destabilise the country’s religious harmony in order to turn people’s focus to other direction.”
“Because of politicisation of the police, it is failing to carry out its due duties properly,” he added.
