AL would resist BNP in celebrating 'National Revolution and Solidarity Day'

Two senior leaders of the ruling Bangladesh Awami League (AL) on Tuesday announced they would resist Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) taking to the streets on 7 November.

The leaders are AL presidium member Abdur Razzak and its joint general secretary Mahbubul Alam Hanif.

The BNP celebrates 7 November as National Revolution and Solidarity Day, commemorating the 1975 civil-military uprising of the people and soldiers.

Addressing a discussion meeting in the capital, the two AL leaders said there was no scope to celebrate ‘Revolution Day’ on the day of killing of sepoys.

Dhaka city AL organised the discussion meeting at the Diploma Engineers’ Institution marking the 3 November Jail Killing Day.

“We don’t want Revolution Day to be celebrated on 7 November on the soil of this Bengal. We want to tackle this politically. We don’t think that any revolution happened on that day. The people were misguided on the day to destroy the spirit of the liberation war,” Abdur Razzak told the discussion meeting.

Calling on all the “pro-liberation-war forces” to resist this (BNP) ‘evil force’ at any cost, Hanif said “We hope the people of Bangladesh will not allow any political activity on 7 November on this soil of Bengal.”

Earlier on Monday, Hanif had made the same call while addressing another discussion meeting of the party.
